Audrey The Cat

If you had asked me back in January what would be the hardest goodbye/the hardest thing to leave in DC... I don't think my answer would match what I am typing now. I never expected to gain such a fond friendship with a four-legged friend, a companion who kept me company in the night and never left my bedside, when I cried over university or other worries she was always there beside me and always welcomed me home with a "meow".

There are a few things no one fully knew apart from those closest to me (mainly just my mum) about how the death of my dog (my best friend Harry) affected me. I closed myself off to the idea of affection from animals, I didn't want to show another animal love... (not in a food, water sense etc -  in a love sense, I believed if I loved another animal I would be betraying Harry). How wrong I was - It isn't betrayal, it's continuing the love Harry was so fortunate to have in his life on, continuing for Harry.

When I first walked into  my sponsors house, I was initially not as warm to Audrey - friendly but, closed off. I am a strong believer in animals being more emotionally intelligent that humans so, I believed she sensed this.

In light of it recently being International Cat Day, to Audrey. Audrey's been there throughout my whole DC journey, from watching me unpack my suitcase.. To then live and sleep in it, literally making it her personal bed! Audrey was my friend during all the university late nights of work, when I handed in assessments, and she celebrated with me when I received feedback. She was definitely one of my biggest supporters.
Meowing to welcome me home. She was always there, making it her nightly ritual to come beside me and cuddle. Yes, she had a time schedule I had to follow! Audrey showed me it's okay to love other animals after Harry's passing. A friend forever!

Where's Audrey?

Can you guess her favourite spot? Where she is sleeping?

P.S these photos were all taken on different days! I didn't fully unpack my suitcase - it became Audrey's second bed, her favourite place to sleep all summer! If I could've I would've left you the suitcase Audrey.

Yes we had conversations. I enjoyed telling Audrey about my day!

A nice 4am wake up haha, we did go back to sleep after this and woke up 5am when Audrey decided she wanted to go downstairs.
